How to transcribe a YouTube video into text

GASTON lets you download and transcribe almost any YouTube video into text. Just paste the video URL into the app and let Gaston handle downloading, transcribing, and even speaker detection for you, no browser extensions or third-party downloaders required.

1. Log in to your account

Log in to your Gaston account. If you don't have one yet, create a free Gaston account.

2. Click "Add media"

After logging in, locate the Add media button in the upper right corner.

3. Paste the YouTube video's URL

Near the bottom of the "Add media" page there's a panel for adding a video from the web.
Paste the URL into it and click
Add

4. Let Gaston take it from there

That's it. Gaston downloads the YouTube video, processes the audio, and transcribes it within minutes. Once it's done you can play it back, search inside it, export it, or translate it.

Gaston supports downloading videos and audio not only from YouTube, but from hundreds of other sites too. Just try pasting any URL and see for yourself.

If you want to keep an eye on a channel going forward instead of transcribing a single video, take a look at the channel monitoring guide below, it transcribes every new upload for you automatically.
